Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine
Inari is widely worshipped as the Kami of prosperous trade, a bumper harvest, and as a charm for better fortune. This is the general head Shrine out of about 30,000 Shrines dedicated to Inari in the whole of Japan. On the side of Mt. Inariyama there are the torii entrance "tunnels" called Senbon torii, and the vermillion tunnels continue on and on. Large crowds turn out for the Hatsumode (first visit to the Shrine) on New Year's Day, and the Hatsuuma-sai Festival in February.

Byodoin Temple
The corridors of the Amidado Hall, stretching like wings to the left and right, are said to resemble a Chinese Phoenix and so, perhaps fittingly, a phoenix stands atop the roof ridge of Byodoin while the name of the 'Hoodo (Phoenix) Hall' translates as 'Buddhist Heavenly Palace in Paradise.'
From September of 2005, viewing the interior of the Hoodo is once again possible thanks to the August completion of repairs on the seated figure of an Amitabha Buddha although a canopy is still being repaired. Byodoin Temple is registered as a World Cultural Heritage Site.
